RPGaDay 2026 Begins

From tomorrow until the end of August, if you occupy the sphere of interest that enjoys tabletop gaming, you may find yourself awash with posts and footage referencing #RPGaDay

boreders will be jumping on that train, too, and will focus on matters relating to my own RPG, Sanction.

What is Sanction?

For those unfamiliar with Sanction, this is the ruleset I wrote to support The Dee Sanction and have spun off into a generic toolbox book. Sanction offers a simple set of rules with fast character creation and simple mechanics, ideal for pick-up games but up to the task of continued play. Its challenge-driven play allows characters to shine in their moment and for the whole troupe of players to get their spotlight opportunity to make a difference. You never truly fail in Sanction (because failure is usually a mood killer); you just open up a fresh can of worms with a complication-laden partial success.

I have found Sanction a useful tool, a mannequin for tailoring random setting ideas. Dee was a world and a bunch of adventures in need of a system. Sanction has become a handy set of house mechanics and principles that mean I can try my hand at any setting or idea and release it as a Genre Setup.

You can find more information about Sanction on its website. For the immediate future, you will be able to pick up the hardcover of the rules at a discounted price on All Rolled Up. Or you can grab the digital version plus a bundle of Genre Setups on DriveThruRPG.

31 Days of Content

I hope that what I post here on boreders will be of interest to people who don’t necessarily want to dive into another game, as what I plan to do is consider mechanics and the business of bringing ideas together into a loose setting for playtesting.

For those who do own a copy of Sanction and haven’t got it to the table yet, maybe you’ll find a reason to give it a go. I’ll try to offer up some fresh Genre Setup ideas or an adventure seed for an existing book; maybe you’ll find a spark to get you playing.

Meanwhile, those with Sanction and a creative streak might take advantage of the ideas to pull together some material of their own and release it under the Community Content Creation licence. I’ve loved seeing the material other creatives have released, and I’m always open to welcoming more. The melting pot of ideas makes Sanction something special, and with enough releases and interest, I might finally get my own Game System category on DriveThruRPG!
