When Did I Start With This Project – RPGaDay 2022

The question is: When did you start playing this character?

As mentioned in my Monday post, I don’t have a current character. So, I thought I would repurpose this week’s questions to be about a game project, Divided Horizons.

So, the question is: When Did I Start With This Project?

Simple answer, 2nd April 2021. At 11:35:53, to be precise.

I know, because I posted a Tweet about it with a cover image and the joke that any game’s development starts there. With a cover.

At that moment in time, I had it in my head that I would create the game using the engine from Brad Murray‘s excellent Soft Horizon, which probably explains the name. I had it in my head that the game needed to be about more than fighting; that solutions would lie in something more varied and complex than pulling a gun.

That remains true in the current state of the game. You cannot win by blasting everything. If you take that path you will accrue enemies and lose crew faster than the scant wins achieved. The campaign might end with a satisfying bang, but no victory will come with that explosion.

Since 2nd April 2021, things have moved on and my favoured art along with it.

RPGaDay is a prompt-driven experience in tabletop roleplaying, initiated by Dave Chapman of Autocratik, and powered by me and you.
