Introduction for Others – RPGaDay 2022

The question is: Who would you like to introduce to RPGs?

Anybody, really. I have spent the last 15 years or so running games at conventions as a way to introduce people to new games. But I have also taken up the opportunities to introduce my kids, friends spouses, and work colleagues — anyone who is willing to give me the time and embrace the chance to tell a story.

It can be a frightening experience or one plagued with self-doubt.

But, there is no obstacle. At least, that’s something that I always take the time to explain.

There’s no need to act or use silly voices. There’s no need to know the rules or have the understanding to pass a test on game mechanics. There’s no need to create the perfect character or min/max a hero capable of surviving a campaign delving into the depths of Hades and back.

Anyone can do it and everyone should give it a try. It’s the same as watching a football match, riding a bike, eating olives, petting a snake or visiting somewhere completely new — these are all experiences we should give a go. They might not be something we enjoy, but personally watching Stockport County trounce Wrexham by five goals was an experience that paid back immediately!

So, the answer is everyone and anyone.

RPGaDay is a prompt-driven experience in tabletop roleplaying, initiated by Dave Chapman of Autocratik, and powered by me and you.

The prompts for this year are as follows — and you can find out more on Dave’s website.
