If I Could Live in a Game Setting – RPGaDay 2022

The question is: If I could live in a game setting, where would it be?

When I first picked up Cyberpunk 2013, back at the start of the 90s, there was something about Night City that appealed.

On a very real level, I’m not keen on body modification. I mean, I don’t have tattoos or piercings, so how would I handle going through the procedure to get an eye or a hand replaced, never mind a full limb?

And yet, the notion of this world somehow engaged with me at the time, where human potential was both greater and less than today. I mean, it’s far from perfect – Night City was no utopia. This was a setting where you could switch out elements of your body for enhanced capacity and capability, but people lived as slaves to the corporations or to the financing of their cyber-upgrades.

And yet that leap in human potential was fascinating. For a while, I pretty much ran nothing else and I delved into the literature that blossomed in that period, that had grown from the seed of William Gibson‘s Neuromancer, published in 1984.

So, I guess I would be up for a race through the streets of Night City, but perhaps living there would be a step too far. A nice place to visit, but maybe my chances of thriving, or survival, aren’t so high.

RPGaDay is a prompt-driven experience in tabletop roleplaying, initiated by Dave Chapman of Autocratik, and powered by me and you.

The prompts for this year are as follows — and you can find out more on Dave’s website.
