Why I Started Roleplaying – RPGaDay 2022

The question is: Why did you start RPGing?

It’s been covered in the last few posts, but initially, I was just getting out of the rain and looking to spend that time inside doing something other than practising the trombone!

I’ve always enjoyed reading fantasy and science fiction, making up stories and characters, and even turning some of those ideas into actual artefacts.

This was a map I drew in the first year or two of secondary school, as part of a geography project on contours, around the same time I started role-playing. I have no recollection now of what pushed this interest to create parts of a world, other than that interest in stories. I had been reading 2000AD for a few years before this, amongst other varied reading.

Creating this map got me attention and four endeavours – marks of extra recognition.

So, I guess why I started role-playing might be that it was in my blood all along. I have no regrets.

RPGaDay is a prompt-driven experience in tabletop roleplaying, initiated by Dave Chapman of Autocratik, and powered by me and you.

The prompts for this year are as follows — and you can find out more on Dave’s website.
